Atif Mian Awarded R. K. Cho Economics Prize

The Economics Department at Princeton congratulates Atif Mian, the John H. Laporte, Jr. Class of 1967 Professor in Public Policy and Finance and Director of the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance, on his recent award of the R. K. Cho Economics Prize.

Awarded by Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, the R. K. Cho Economics Prize is presented to academics in the field of economics who have contributed to the development of scholarship and education. A prestigious award for economists, the prize was established in 2007 with an endowment from R. K. Cho, the president of Samryoong Co. and an alumnus of Yonsei University’s economics department.

In their announcement, the prize’s website shared, “We are proud to announce that Professor Atif Mian (Princeton University) is this year’s recipient of the R. K. Cho Economics PrizeProfessor Atif Mian is a leading economist renowned for his influential work in macroeconomics and finance, particularly on the interconnections between household debt, financial crises, and economic growth. His research has deepened our understanding of how financial market imperfections and leverage cycles can amplify economic downturns.”

Winners of the prize receive a plaque, a medal, and a monetary award of 100 million KRW. More information about the R. K. Cho Economics Prize, including a complete list of past awardees is available here.
